Piece description from the artist
This is one of my favorite pieces I've ever made. I created it during a time in my life when I was faced with some difficult decisions and the outcome wasn't what I hoped it would be. Things in life are bittersweet, yet somehow they always have a way of working out.
Lorelle Rau is a contemporary collage artist, who uses cut paper and appropriated imagery to investigate concepts ranging from nature and place to personal experiences. Rau’s harmonious compositions piece together snippets of found paper and appropriated imagery to create graceful linear vistas and abstract scenes that coordinate color, texture, and shape with balanced intention. Her process is guided by an intuitive context in which these elements come together; adding and extracting forms, expertly bringing line and detail into play within the landscape.
Rau earned her MA in Arts Administration from the Savannah College of Art and Design; BA in Studio Art and a BS in Arts Management with a Minor in Business from Appalachian State University. She is originally from Fort Lauderdale, FL but currently lives and works in Boise, Idaho.
