Placing emphasis on process, Marco Schmidli lets the medium naturally manifest within this artwork. “An important aspect of my artwork is the removal of my own artistic hand. Instead of controlling and demanding the paint move and act a certain way, I let the paint naturally manifest and express its pure form/ true colors/ most natural movement.”

Marco Schmidli is originally from Basel, Switzerland. He studied photography and fine art in Switzerland, and won a scholarship for residency at the Swiss Institute in Rome, Italy. Marco is best known as a successful commercial artist and the driving force behind Los Angeles based Schmidli Backdrops. His hand painted backdrops are distributed globally and enjoy name recognition in commercial photography. Beside his commercial endeavor, he continues his art practice and specializes in large format processed based abstract art. He attributes his inspiration from nature, media and materials that he works with.
