About Hannah Mintek

Denver, CO

Hannah Mintek spent her childhood and school years in Wisconsin and Michigan. At the University of Wisconsin–Madison, she studied fine arts with a focus in sculpture and photography. After finishing university, she joined the Peace Corps and moved to the former Soviet republic of Georgia. Her experiences there greatly influenced the current direction of her photography.

Hannah’s body of work consists of cultural photography, which focuses on the needs of internally displaced Georgians; and art photography, which explores the decay of shared spaces and how the places most ignored take on lives of their own. Most of her photographs are taken in Tbilisi, where she is inspired by the everyday objects one encounters along its streets, things like garage doors, street signs, and graffiti. She takes great care to keep true to the actual photograph, rarely cropping and almost never changing the natural lighting or color of her images.

Hannah currently splits her time between Denver, Colorado and Tbilisi, Georgia.
