Piece description from the artist
Silkscreen, India ink, gesso, gouache, and colored pencil on frosted mylar – using abstract and realist forms to explore the psychological experience of trauma.
After earning her BFA in printmaking, Erin Leigh has since featured in a number of exhibitions worldwide, including those juried by curators from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and most notably in the 2011 Shanghai Youth Biennial.
Her work explores female sexuality, violence, and trauma through a combination of representation and abstraction. Using printmaking and manual processing, the pieces look at the personal and impersonal experiences of trauma and feeling in and out of one's body.
