Ariel

Piece description from the artist

I wanted to create something that produced the same sense of awe I have when I see the beauty of earth and where it meets a body of water, all from an aerial perspective.

Ariel is one of the very first large pieces of art I created. I wanted something that was unique, original, but yet seamlessly blended in with the flow and energy of my home environment.

I created Ariel with many layers of fluid paint. The final step was applying the coffee filters to act as the border/shore of the land, whilst adding the coffee grounds within the filter border and applying thick fluid acrylic paint to dry the texture onto the canvas.

Ariel was my "lightbulb" moment. After Ariel was born, I created a series of paintings implementing the same technique of coffee filters, coffee grounds, and thick fluid paint. These mediums and techniques naturally create pieces that mimic the acts of mother nature, the acts that create our own mountains and landscapes.

I hope that when viewers see this piece, they feel the same sense of calm and comfort as I do.

About Elizabeth Mason

Woodland Hills, CA

Elizabeth Mason is an abstract landscape artist originally from Oceanside, CA, currently residing in Los Angeles. For as long as she can remember, art has always played an integral part in how she communicates, how she expresses herself, and how she sees the world.

Elizabeth focuses on mixed media with an emphasis on texture, giving the landscape aspect of her pieces a striking and unique layer of warmth, depth and dimension. She thinks of art as a form of thought provoking therapy for the observer, so implementing elements of grounding earth and organic textures that you can see and feel are what Elizabeth is drawn to most.

Elizabeth takes her inspiration from Mother Nature. The spidering branches from the deep roots to the tops of a tree, the way the retreating waves on a beach leave the same branch-like forms in the sand, and the way the rain leaves those same impressions in the hills of mountains. The structure of our irises and the wrinkles on our hands. These natural formations even appear in the galaxy and across the universe. It is infinite and it is beautiful.

Elizabeth has a strong working relationship with many interior designers in Los Angeles, and her work has been added to rosters of prominent art dealers in the Los Angeles, including Posner Fine Art and Art Dimensions, Inc. Elizabeth is a member of Los Angeles Art Association, and Women in Luxury Design; an esteemed business networking organization comprised of leading women in the luxury design/building industries.
