Ghost signs are among my favorite subjects to photograph. These hand-painted advertisements were often painted by traveling artists whose names have been lost to time. Some are signed, making it easier to trace the artist, but most are not. This old auto repair garage is covered in hand-painted advertisements for the business. I enjoy the simple folk art style and respect the skill that went into doing a job that is now primarily digital with almost no hand-made skill. The artisans who traveled around the country painting signs and advertisements were creatives who enjoyed their freedom. I try to document them when I see them to keep the style alive.
Annie was born and raised in Montana, growing up on her family's ranch in the beautiful Smith River Valley. Growing up in Montana's wild and beautiful Landscape led to her deep love of nature and all things rural. Annie attended the Art Institute of Colorado and lived in Denver Colorado until the completion of her Interior Design degree in 2002. After working in that field for several years, Annie moved back to Montana and began her own business, focusing on her ever-growing love of photography. She began traveling the backroads and wilderness of Montana and the Rocky Mountain region and selling her photos professionally in galleries, shops, and online. She primarily searches for rural Landscapes, old barns, abandoned farmhouses, and occasionally wildlife she encounters. Her work as been featured in HGTV, Better Homes and Gardens, and featured in three books on emerging artists of the United States. She currently lives in Billings, Montana, and takes several trips during the year to gather new images.
