Piece description from the artist
Pencil drawing of the top of Bald Head Island's "Old Baldy" lighthouse. North Carolina's oldest lighthouse, Old Baldy was built in 1817 and has steadfastly warned ships of hazards where the Cape Fear river meets the Atlantic Ocean.
Whether it was skyscrapers, lighthouses or ships, big architecture has fascinated Greg since his childhood. As a pencil artist working in the style of realism, Greg's goal with his work is to translate his excitement for my subjects onto paper and hopefully elicit that same excitement from the viewer. Greg approach his subjects similar to how a portrait artist would approach drawing a person, capturing all of the textures and nuances that give each subject its unique personality. He studies how light interacts with each subject and through varying pencil strokes and careful attention to value contrast, he attempts to create textures that lift the subject off the paper and bring the composition to life. Greg has been recognized in several international art competitions and his work has been published in multiple art journals as well as Artists Magazine.
