Piece description from the artist
In the middle of central Illinois is a small town called Charleston, and in the middle of this tiny farm town is a huge monolithic courthouse. Someone once upon a time saw greatness in this tiny hamlet, and built a courthouse to match.
Matthew Gauger was born in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Growing up, Mathew spent his time between living in the city and the suburbs, which gave him a unique double-sided perspective to both ways of life, from the rough and gritty sides of urban living, to the clean and orderly ways of suburban living. It gave him perspective on the big picture of life, that no one life is different from any other, just the way we decorate them. His work strives to capture moments in time which are true to our time, and are in turn, timeless.
