Piece description from the artist
Washington DC's famous cherry blossoms in full bloom along the Tidal Basin near the National Mall. Each spring, about 1,700 cherry trees bloom around Washington DC's Tidal Basin. Set amongst some of DC's famous monuments, the cherry blossoms attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. The trees date back to a gift from Japan in 1912, and there are a handful of the original trees still remaining amongst the thousands of younger trees that have since been added. This shot is taken towards the end of the bloom, when the petals are starting to fall off the trees and blanket the ground with cherry blossom "snow." It was taken in the MLK Memorial.
