Piece description from the artist
Part 1 of a 2 part series showcasing the awe and beauty of the Chicago skyline. Photographing a skyline to the west at sunset can be particularly challenging due to the intense brightness of the sky behind the buildings which often leaves the details of the buildings themselves in shadow. By utilizing bracketed exposures and careful timing I was able to achieve a composition that preserves the architectural detail whilst also showing the stunning city lights.
Phil started his career in high end computer graphics and animation which is where is extreme attention to detail came from. He specializes in creating enormous photographic landscapes using a gigapixel camera imaging system. This results in an image that suffers no lens distortion and can be printed at extremely large sizes with no loss in detail or clarity. His customers have said it is like looking out of a window.
