Piece description from the artist
My work is influenced by the American Post-Painterly Abstractionists. Commonly, my works contain the same strong aesthetic qualities and fundamental formal elements of the Post-Painterly Abstractionists. These drawings and paintings are of the abstracted colorings of rust and weathered paint I find in my urban walks through Atlanta. I’m using rich colors and textures to purely delight the senses.
Done in an aesthetic style but also holding a conceptual meaning, I am documenting the decay that occurs from abandonment and neglect. The work is evocative rather than descriptive—for me it’s based on feeling, emotion, or memory. I’m working intuitively, challenging what my art is or should be. The results are almost landscape-like and painted lines begin to embody mapping. The pieces document changes in an atypical micro-focused manner: colorful, textured, and unexpectedly pleasing.
