Fiddlehead Ferns

Piece description from the artist

Then create this painting, I collected real fiddlehead ferns from the garden, and pressed them. Then incorporated the botanical pressings into this encaustic painting. I used the encaustic wax to seal the ferns to the birchwood cradle board. Additional layers of encaustic were fused with pan pastels and alcohol ink painting overlays. I use a blowtorch to fuse each layer added. The prints show the layers of medium, including the lighter ferns carved out from the wax below. Part painting, part sculptural. This a lovely little painting showcases the delicate world, right next to our feet.
