Flowers and Fence Posts

Piece description from the artist

In 2012 I took a road trip across the wide open spaces of the State of Texas with my family. As we were in search of the famous Texas bluebonnets and other spring wildflowers, we avoided the well traveled interstates and kept to the smaller back country roads and we were not disappointed. That year's early warm weather and a little bit of rain produced a vibrant and picturesque wildflower season, especially along the roadsides and fields of the Hill Country. This image was captured along windy Texas Highway 29 around Llano and Burnet in the northern part of Hill Country. The bluebonnets scattered in the field and the low perspective of the old wooden fence stretching into the distance combine to make the perfect rustic scene.

About Brian Kerls

Parker, CO

Photography has long been a passion of mine and is a journey that began in earnest during a road trip across California during college. Using a small, 35mm, “point and shoot” film camera I was able to capture some of my first, quality landscape and mountain photos and I have been hooked ever since. Over the years cameras and equipment have come and gone, but my aim has remained the same – to capture and share in a photograph the beauty of the natural and built environment that is all around us, but too often overlooked.

Stunning fine art landscape photography requires both exceptional light and intriguing and inspiring subjects, leading me to seek out unique perspectives of dramatic landscapes during times of soft, beautiful light. Featured in such magazines as Landscape Photography, Outdoor Photographer, and Practical Photography, I strive to capture interesting and striking elements of natural or built landscapes in such a way that you, as the viewer, are able to escape from your daily routine and feel as if you were experiencing these awe-inspiring moments and places in person.

As an avid adventurer and outdoor enthusiast, I pursue photography for the pure fun of it. I absolutely love the happiness, creativity, challenge, and exposure to the natural and built environment that photography provides in return. Whether hiking a remote mountain peak, enjoying an alpine waterfall, driving a quiet rural road, or exploring cities and towns, my camera is always along for the ride.

Although I have traveled worldwide, the spectacular and diverse landscapes of the western United States are some of my favorite locations to photograph. With seemingly endless subjects across varying seasons and conditions, the creative possibilities are almost limitless. Living in Colorado, many of my photos are of scenic Rocky Mountain landscapes, alpine lakes and waterfalls, or wildlife that I have enjoyed taking during various back country adventures.

Through my landscape photography I endeavor to capture brief moments from the beautiful places I travel and I hope at least a small sense of their wonder comes through in the Colorado landscape photos and images from across the western United States you see here. For me, photography is a never-ending journey of exploration, education, challenge, creativity, and fun – and one which I invite you to share with me.
