Piece description from the artist
This illustration came out of two of my enduring interests – the color blue, and futile or unaccomplishable tasks. Last year I received a drawing prompt to make an illustration of the night sky. To emphasize the uncapturability of the color of the sky at night, I featured a swarm of color swatches, a familiar motif to me through my work as an illustrator. As with most of my work, this was intended to be both a serious and poignant meditation on the ineffability of life in the cosmos, as well as a light tongue-in-cheek color study.
Kit Collins is an illustrator and muralist based in Medford, MA. She has created murals for public art commissions and private clients throughout the greater Northeast, including the cities of Pawtucket, RI; Lowell, MA; and the Lane Memorial Library in Hampton, NH. A seasoned collaborator with brands, campaigns and publications, Collins' illustration clients include the Charles River Regional Chamber, Amazon Web Services, Conservation Law Foundation, and Arnold Worldwide.
Collins specializes in creating detailed, warm, whimsical illustrations and maps, as well as site-specific murals. While digital illustration and painting make up the bulk of her artistic practice, Kit's work is influenced by a variety of craft techniques, such as printmaking and embroidery, and a cartoony sense of humor often shows up in her work. Whether every new illustration or blank wall, Kit seeks to create opportunities for viewers to experience levity, humor, celebration, and connection.
