Piece description from the artist
The rural areas of South Dakota are dotted with old farmhouses. While traveling the backroads, I spotted this old simple home, tucked under the Cottonwood trees. Many of these old houses are disappearing, and I want to document as many of them as possible to record the simple ways people used to live, long before social media, the constant noise of cell phones, and the 24hour news loops that we are exposed to in today's world. Standing under the trees looking at this old home is peaceful and calming, connecting me with the earth's stillness and slower pace of nature.
Annie was born and raised in Montana, growing up on her family's ranch in the beautiful Smith River Valley. Growing up in Montana's wild and beautiful Landscape led to her deep love of nature and all things rural. Annie attended the Art Institute of Colorado and lived in Denver Colorado until the completion of her Interior Design degree in 2002. After working in that field for several years, Annie moved back to Montana and began her own business, focusing on her ever-growing love of photography. She began traveling the backroads and wilderness of Montana and the Rocky Mountain region and selling her photos professionally in galleries, shops, and online. She primarily searches for rural Landscapes, old barns, abandoned farmhouses, and occasionally wildlife she encounters. Her work as been featured in HGTV, Better Homes and Gardens, and featured in three books on emerging artists of the United States. She currently lives in Billings, Montana, and takes several trips during the year to gather new images.
