Piece description from the artist
Golden Poppies is a 16x 20 collage on panel.
This piece celebrates the beauty of flowers in their different stages of life. Bring a bit of Nature into your space so you can be reminded of our connection to the natural world.
Nature’s infinite array of beautiful forms, and patterns are my muse. It’s feast for the eyes is an invitation to dwell on the surface but ultimately a distraction for deeper themes such as; the flow of energy, and life and death as the natural cycles of nature. The Human figure I also consider a part of the natural world. Mapping a face is as unique as a leaf. These ideas are the underpinning of my work.
Paper Mosaics, is essentially a highly specialized form of collage. I use all types of papers such as, wrapping papers, batik, woodblock, washi, and even pages from books and magazines. Often, I will subdue the patterns on the papers with a wash of paint, so it steps into the background, only to be realized upon closer inspection.
I then meticulously trace and cut each shape and then glue it to the drawing.
The collage emergers piece by piece, just like a mosaic. Shapes, forms and patterns are my language.
I hope my work serves as reminder that We are Nature, connected to each other and the natural world. Our variety is what makes this world strong and beautiful and just like my Paper Mosaics, each piece of paper that is cut is utterly unique and different yet essential to the whole.
