Piece description from the artist
Two icons of National Harbor in Maryland near Washington DC are combined in this composition. The raised arm and hand of the Awakening is juxtaposed just above the illuminated Capital Wheel on the Potomac River. A slow shutter speed allows the lights on the Ferris Wheel to be slightly blurred to give it more prominence in the composition.
Steve Heap has been a photographer for over 50 years now (which is frightening to think about!) but in that time he has developed an eye for what would make a striking piece of wall art. Photography is all about the light and his finest attribute is patience! Waiting for the conditions to be just right is the key to making a piece of art that you can be proud of. Of course, luck plays a part, but without that patience of being in the right place at the right time, it just becomes a snapshot. He focuses on capturing images from around the world – timeless shots that reward the viewer with insights as they spend more time with them!
