Piece description from the artist
A visit to New York with my 5-year-old granddaughter gave me a chance to see the sights from the eyes of a child. Of course, we had to take the subway and I took a short detour to capture this image. The main hall of Grand Central station in New York is a majestic space that welcomes millions of visitors and commuters every year. The hall features a high vaulted ceiling with a painted mural of the zodiac, a large information booth with a four-faced clock, and several grand staircases that lead to the upper levels.
Steve Heap has been a photographer for over 50 years now (which is frightening to think about!) but in that time he has developed an eye for what would make a striking piece of wall art. Photography is all about the light and his finest attribute is patience! Waiting for the conditions to be just right is the key to making a piece of art that you can be proud of. Of course, luck plays a part, but without that patience of being in the right place at the right time, it just becomes a snapshot. He focuses on capturing images from around the world – timeless shots that reward the viewer with insights as they spend more time with them!
