Construction on the Brooklyn Bridge.
The Brooklyn Bridge spans about 1,600 feet and was the first steel-wire bridge constructed. Completed in 1883, the bridge was a symbol of optimism at the time, representing the capabilities of technology. The Brooklyn Bridge was designated a National Historical Landmark in 1964.
