Piece description from the artist
Paperweight – Into the Glass
While creating this painting I tried to immerse myself beneath the shiny surface of the glass orb.
Into the glass I dove over glistening gray shelves and beneath spouting ribbons of teal.
Through a tunnel beneath a shelf embedded with bright red florals.
The light from above illumines iridescent blues, yellows, whites, and reds while trying hard to penetrate the inky blacks that contrast the brilliant, colored forms.
I seek solace inside the dome.
30”x24” oil on canvas mounted to board.
Raised in Zimbabwe and transplanted to the United States as a teenager, Roger has learned to straddle different worlds and cultures. His unique artistic style reflects his diverse background and myriad cultural influences.
As I turn around and prepare to leave the party, my paintings are celebrations of the last things I’ve observed.
