Kerrville Clouds

Piece description from the artist

A fine day in late summer, where heavy cumulus clouds rest above a quiet pasture. The trees in Texas are tenacious and struggle often against the lack of rain and the overbearing sun.

About Regina Burchett

Kannapolis, NC

Regina Calton Burchett is a North Carolina artist working primarily in pastels, charcoal and oils. She graduated from Michigan State University, studying textiles and art, and continued with her art studies after graduation.

Over time, Regina has come to focus on painting skies and landscapes, feeling that the beauty of nature brings a sense of peace and calm to an increasingly chaotic world.

"As an artist, my passion lies in capturing the every-changing beauty of the sky through the use of oils and pastels. I am constantly mesmerized by the movement of the clouds, the vivid colors that paint the horizon, and the way in which the sky transforms throughout the day.

Through my artwork, I strive to convey the majesty and vastness of the sky, while also expressing the subtle nuances that make each moment unique. There is a sense of tranquility in the way that the sky changes, and I aim to capture this serenity while also conveying the sense of awe and wonder that it inspires.

Whether I am working with oils or pastels, I approach my artwork with a sense of reverence for the sky, allowing the colors and the movement to guide me. My hope is that those who view my paintings will be inspired to pause and reflect on the beauty of the natural world around them."

Burchett was the judge for the Pastel Guild of Europe's March 2020 'Get Dusty' Competition, a panelist for the ASC Regional Artist Project Grants in October 2018, and Judge for the 2018 Ellen Cook Gaskin Memorial Art Show in Albemarle NC. Her work was included in the Winter Show at Greenhill in Greensboro for 2017-2018, she was a finalist in The Artist's Magazine's 29th Annual Art Competition and was recently the featured artist in the Informed Collector Daily Brief. She won the 2nd place award in the 2015 North Ridge Art Gala in Raleigh, was invited to participate in the 2015 Carolina’s Got Art Exhibit at the Elder Gallery in Charlotte, a Five Woman show with Crown Artists at the Cornwell Center in Charlotte, and the “Human Nature” and “Discover Local” exhibits at The Galleries of the Cabarrus Arts Council in Concord.
