Piece description from the artist
'King's Schilling'
15H x 11W
Mixed Media on Paper
2024
A mix of inks, acrylic and a touch of metallic watercolor inhabit this abstract work.
Shapes bring to mind coins and the myths/legends of forced conscription/impressment into the British Navy. Now defunct, local pub, "Moon Under Water," explained -on their menu – the trick of hiding a schilling in a tankard of ale. When an unsuspecting 'recruit' drank to the bottom of the tankard, the coin would slide forward and touch his lips. Having touched/taken the coin/payment the 'recruit' was now drafted. Touching this work will not draft you, but will – I hope – impress you (in the good way).
Cheers.

Script M Abstract Art
It's all about the execution, exploration, and evolution of an idea.
His work blurs the distinction between alcohol ink and watercolor; working with dyes, inks, liquid acrylic, liquid watercolor, and other aqueous media – mixed or used individually. The work has both dynamic and passive qualities. Lately, he has been incorporating metallic watercolor and pearlescent ink to his work.
In 2022, Mark was elected to the PAVA Board of Trustees, and now serves as Secretary. He is also a Gobioff Foundation micro-grant recipient, as well as a Professional Development grant recipient from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, in Tampa. Most recently, Mark has been accepted into the Raymond James Gasparilla Arts Festival's Emerging Artist Program, and will take part in the Festival March 1 – 2, 2025.
