Piece description from the artist
La Diosa De Oro is part of a series titled “Mujeres Poderosas”, which highlights women who are claiming their space, making bold moves to be heard, seen and celebrated.
As a young girl, I often desired to take on roles that were designated for boys or men. I was called a tom-boy and often felt embarrassed by it, but I really liked the way their uniforms looked, and the power that came with their positions. I didn’t understand why women couldn’t or shouldn’t hold these positions.
As I grew older I realized the importance of doing what naturally suited me, even if it went against the expectations of society. This piece was created to showcase women who break through the traditional standards of gender roles and flourish.
