LCD Abstraction 6121

Piece description from the artist

I make these LCD Abstractions by photographing my television screen while adjusting my digital antenna. This makes the imagery appear choppy and unpredictable and becomes a fun experience to try and photograph. I take thousands of pictures this way and find the ones that somehow standout to make into bigger prints. I then take a graphite pencil and lightly shade into it, all over it, to enhance the forms within it. It becomes a meditative experience. Slowing down my perceptions by drawing over every detail of these television prints reminds me how important it is to continue experiencing the world in deeper ways. This work provides an example of what can be done to actively regard what our inventions are throwing at us instead of letting them serve as mindless distractions.
