Morning on Jamaica Pond

Piece description from the artist

Jamaica Pond, Jamaica Plain, MA USA

A pure, glacial kettle hole, Jamaica Pond captivated Olmsted with its “great beauty in reflections and flickering half-lights.” The largest standing body of water in the Emerald Necklace, it needed few alterations to highlight its natural beauty. Olmsted preserved much of the existing vegetation and framed the pond with new trees, shrubs and paths.

Today, the boathouse at Jamaica Pond provides facilities for sailing and rowing. The 1.5-mile path around the pond is a favorite of joggers and dog walkers alike. Visitors can fish by permit and the pond is stocked with trout and salmon raised in state hatcheries every year. The fields above the Sugar Bowl are the perfect place to picnic with friends and family.

About Charlie Rosenberg

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Charlie Rosenberg has been a photographer since the 1970s. Enamored with black and white in his early career he now seeks out bright colors but you will see an occasional black and white image in his portfolio. His work generally illustrates the hidden architectural gems found while traveling abroad.

After moving to Boston in 1989, Charlie fell in love with the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of the city. His work appears in a series of nine books published by Arcadia Publishers documenting the history of Boston’s neighborhoods. His most recent work features Cuba, Azores, and France.
