Neuron Stain (after Cajal)

Piece description from the artist

My series "Neuron Stains" are inspired by the carefully observed drawings of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, the 19th century father of modern neuroscience. Cajal drew neurons by hand while looking at them through a microscope. He was an artist and scientist, recognizing the power of imagery to reveal inner truths. I translate his drawings with embroidery thread stitched onto a field of stained color.
