On the House

Piece description from the artist

Between the leafy lanes of South London, the Roebuck stands as a timeless haven, where laughter and camaraderie blend with the rich aroma of aged ales. Built in an eclectic freestyle with Jacobean, Dutch and Classical features the mostly red brick building is an 18th-century Grade II listed pub in Southwark, at the corner of Trinity Church Street. I used to live close by and have frequented this pub many times. Its facade on any day is inviting but especially on a bright day, like the one pictured, makes it one of my personal favourites in this neighbourhood. I took this photo because it reminded me of the slow afternoons that led into joyous evenings, enjoying friends' company and cherishing the moments.

About Esan Swan

London, United Kingdom

Esan Swan is a professional photographer, journalist and picture editor at the Financial Times in London. With deep roots in his community and heritage, his work seeks to represent the rich multicultural storytelling that inspired him in his youth and continues to do so now well into his career. Historical documentary photography and varying art and social movements as well as commercial interpretation of beauty have influenced his work into a contemporary style that could be called its own. Originally from Bermuda and partly raised in the United States, his international approach to storytelling, from commissioned picture essays to independent work on his website, is defined by the aesthetics of nature, design and human connections.
