Open Mind II

Piece description from the artist

On these special limited digital series that I will call “State of Mind”, I’ve mixed 2 previous analog series “The Discomfort Zone” and “Travel Diaries”); always with the purpose of searching new motivation to find different languages within my work.

With “The Discomfort Zone” (2022), I did some critical analysis of recent works, and decided to start getting out of the “comfort zone” and paint over paintings I had already solved. I practiced this “exercise” in many medium and large -scale pieces, The process sometimes involved covering almost everything I made, that was actually “well done”, but not what I was looking for. The result of this series have a lot of layers and lines; It’s about drawing, painting, covering, marking the line, cover again, paint again…
It’s complex, as it is life and humans.
My motto has to be with avoiding a conscious intention and my work represent a call to emerge an innate expression of subconscious lyrical abstraction associations through psychic automatism. “The Discomfort Zone” presents “mental maps” of mysterious associations using pre-made drawings as a starting point, then combining abstraction and representation through recurring images of anthropomorphic hybrids that dance and interact, and blends across compositions

On “Travel Diaries” (2023), I incorporated select nature photographs with my own imagery (personal and intimate language). I found it interesting to search for communication between the photographs and the lyrical /organic language that always characterizes my work.
“Travel Diaries” is the union of my dream world with the real world. My work represents a sandbox of my subconscious mind and inner emotions. By putting together that inner world with the outer world (nature) I found a more intimate nuance of my characters now in a natural environment.

“State of mind” is a new way of essentially, bring the biomorphic shapes and chromatic explorations that I created on “The Discomfort Zone” to backgrounds of poetic landscapes (process used on “Travel Diaries”).
The result brings life to my metaphorical imagery projected into a natural world that bring us to a cosmic, magical and mysterious Universe. Maybe a new dimension where chaos is controlled and doesn’t affect negatively our atmosphere anymore. This series is based on real physical mixed media paintings.
