Piece description from the artist
Plain is an abstract landscape painting of southwest USA landforms. Plains are sweeping flat landscapes that are formed by water – many were under a sea or glacier at one point. The waters receded leaving minerals and rocks. Plants seem to be sparse but adapted to the vigorous climate. Trees are clustered around waterways. I see wide open spaces, nuances of color and form.
This series was inspired by my home in Oklahoma, travels, and the study of the landscape architecture of the North American continent.
Cynthia Fletcher is a painter, working in oil, acrylic, and digital media. Her style is abstract with jewel-tone color, texture, layering, and symbolism. Nature is her chief inspiration, and her work focuses on experiences there, using abstraction to go beyond form to capture and communicate light, color, and sensation.
Fletcher is also a Landscape Architect who has lived and worked in a variety of environments from Chicago to the rainforest of Panama. Her lakeside studio is located in Oklahoma City.
