Piece description from the artist
Primrose blooming among the Desert Sunflowers at the end of the 2017 Southern California super-bloom in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The cracked earth around these wildflower indicate the end is near but not quite as near as the day's end as indicated by the twilight glow on the distant horizon.
Greg's interest in photography grew out of photography contributions to his high school's newspaper and yearbook while pursuing landscape and wildlife photography on summer camping trips to local wildlife refuges, recreation lands, and national and state parks. Greg holds a Certificate in Photography from Kaw Area Vocational Technical School in Topeka, Kansas. In this 1,080 hour photography program all aspects of photography were covered from black and white and color film/print development to photographing with pinhole, Instamatic, 35mm, 4×5 and 8×10 view cameras using existing light and studio light.
After graduating from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Greg went on to earn his Masters of Business Administration and quickly found employment in the Health Insurance Industry in Southern California. While he continued to photograph nature throughout his professional career it was not until the early-2000s with the advent of quality DSLRs did Greg return to nature photography in a more passionate way.
"Digital gives the photographer complete control over the print development process which was not available to the average photographer except in the black and white film/print world", says Greg. "The high cost of required equipment and toxic chemicals of color printing was left to professional print labs." The gain in control over the final print has rekindled Greg's passion in nature photography and today he takes multiple trips annually in pursuit of images throughout California, Hawaii and the Southwest.
Greg currently uses a full-frame DSLR with 50.6 megapixels of resolution which means he can generate high quality prints on photographic paper, canvas and acrylic. These dramatic fine art images of nature are a welcome addition to anyone's home, office or place of business.
