Pushing the Limits, Pressing Against the Sky

Piece description from the artist

This image is an exquisite one. It captures the immense development happening in the everchanging Midtown. All along the skyline there are buildings growing without remorse, climbing without apology. My aim with this image was to frame the story of the progression. The scale of the workers provides a dichotomy between man and what they are creating. This particular site is the CODA project, a state of the art computer science building being built by the ever-present John Portman and Associates. This grand construction is going up around the historic Crum and Forster Building, using it as the street front entrance. It was saved by the pressure of the public to save Atlanta’s History – much like the push to save the Fox Theatre in the 1970’s. Crum and Forster is an insurance company, founded in 1896, built from the lint in the empty pockets of Scottish immigrant, John Forster, and Frederick Crum.
