Piece description from the artist

I participated in a project called Brushes with Cancer where artists are paired with patients with cancer. Dan, the person I was paired with, was a college professor and a photographer. We went through his photos and chose a simple scene he had taken of a group of reeds reflected in the water in a lake. I then took that photo and, through various software programs and techniques, created a series of variations of the photographs that reflected the ups and downs of his journey with cancer. I created a book of the 20+ photos that was presented to his widow. And one of the photos was sold at a gala to raise funds for cancer research. So it is fitting this photo will be displayed in a hospital. The bubbles, or points of light as I call them, are meant to symbolize the joy and hope he brought to others during his life.
