Piece description from the artist
My husband and I were on a trip to a lake in Northern Minnesota. We were walking around the edge of the water, and this golden retriever decided that my husband was his best friend. The dog insisted on playing fetch and kept finding sticks that get larger and heavier as the evening continued. The dog (and my husband, I think) was having the time of his life diving in and chasing after these sticks that were being thrown off of the dock into the water that was reflecting the setting sun.
This piece was made with glued embroidery floss. It is my signature technique that I have developed. These pieces take a lot of time, but the texture of the string is maintained even with the prints of the original. They have a tactile quality that make people want to reach out and touch it.
Amanda Pearson is a mixed media artist who lives in the Twin Cities, MN (but grew up in Portland, OR). In college, she majored in Art Education and after graduating found a niche in elevating the mundane materials that are often forgotten in the back of the craft drawer. Her focus is currently on pieces created by gluing embroidery floss, but she also uses other media such as dots (made out of colored pencils or paint), glued hole punches from cardstock paper, and has even made a mosaic from recycled used gift cards. Her work requires time, and it takes a lot of it – each piece takes months to create. These pieces aim to capture a moment of time in spaces that could be considered sacred. Nature is used to represent these significant moments.
