Samaras

Samara is the name for the winged seed pod, in this case of the Ailanthus Altissima tree or the tree of heaven. The seed pods of this tree are numerous and grow in bunches and then take flight on the wind with their wings. It’s a beautiful tree that grows easily, to be quite large. Sometimes considered “invasive,” this is actually an opportunity to reframe plants and trees for this positive quality.
