Piece description from the artist
This painting depicts the Old Market Passageway in Omaha, Nebraska. A former alley, the Old Market Passageway was developed into a cove of shops and restaurants. From Mexican food and steak dinners, unique crafts and clothing, to charming bookstores and art galleries, the passageway is a nestled away gem within the walls of downtown Omaha. The artist spends many weeks of the year visiting, captured the brick walls and dark interior and the beauty of the Old Market Passageway.
Grzadzielewski, a self-taught painter, favors acrylics with spurts into watercolors. Her broad strokes in an impressionist style create a sense of movement and life. The central theme of her work, buildings and homes, captures the engagement between people and their environments. Her art not only illustrates structures, but also absorbs and reflects the community's energy.
