Piece description from the artist
It's the evening. Lights and colors. Places to eat. Places to meet. Places to hang out. It's rained so the store lights are reflected on the parking lot surface making it seem more atmospheric. I wanted to convey an off center, slightly darker feel using somewhat abstracted figures and patterns from the light and reflections with a high horizon line and large parking lot area in the foreground.
With all of the financial, political, environmental and technological crises that are present in the world today, Steve Epstein paints to get beyond his own feelings of complacency towards the status quo. Through painting, Steve tries to bridge the gap between what he has to do, what he thinks, what he feels and what he questions. In doing so, he creates an ongoing conversation between his life as an artist and the world around him.
Epstein studied painting and drawing at Snug Harbor, the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League. His paintings have been included in group exhibitions at the "Salmagundi Club":http://www.salmagundi.org, "Westbeth Gallery":http://westbeth.org and "Agora Gallery":http://www.agora-gallery.com. His painting “Silhouette Street“ was included in the "Lurzer Archive’s":http://www.luerzersarchive.net/ 2005 edition of their publication “200 Best Illustrators Worldwide”:http://us.luerzersarchive.net/200best-illustrators-worldwide-09-10.asp?.
