Piece description from the artist
Summer storm clouds gather over the North Rim of the Grand Canyon
For the first four years of his life, before his family decided to make a home in Florida, Montgomery Gilchrist was raised on a sailboat off the coast Central and South America. As an adult, he taught English in Tokyo for two years then subsequently settled in Manhattan. He is a world traveler and maintains a passionate interest in the ways different people live.
Montgomery is most inspired by literary icon, "Susan Sontag":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Sontag, who said, “All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.”
