The honeybee is a highly valued and intelligent creature, the western honeybee or Apis mellifera the “honey bearer” so important to ecosystems on this continent and others. The interesting backstory of the photo is that I saved this bee from drowning in the ocean. I saw it struggling upside down on the water near me, so I scooped it up, had it dry off for a while and then put it on a rose bush up shore.
