Piece description from the artist
This piece is inspired by an early morning walk to the beach during 'golden hour', when the sun has only just risen and the beach grasses are a glowing mass of yellow and ochre.
It is created with mixed media, as the mediums represent the differing experiences of each element in the artwork. The sky is a soft wash using watercolour, the vibrant, textured grasses are in bold oil pastel and acrylic is used for the softer beach succulents.
Elizabeth is based in New Zealand, right near the beach. Being close to such a beautiful landscape provides the inspiration for her work, as she feels a strong connection to her local environment.
Elizabeth is interested in capturing the essence of a place through colour and brushstroke. Her artworks often use vivid colour palettes to capture the feelings experienced while being in nature.
Her painting style is constantly evolving. One of the consistent features is a fascination with colour and light and she works with a variety of different mediums to balance out the two, including gouache, watercolour, acrylic, oil paint and pastels.
