The Tree has a complicated story. After 9/11 I started to paint a very angry painting with a lot of jagged shapes and bold jarring colors. and that was a cathartic experience but after living with the work for two years I decided to turn it into an expression of hope and joy and that is how The Tree came to be…I had to move on
Don’s work is a crossover between pure abstraction and references to the natural world. Color and texture are key elements in his work. His effort is to play with chaos and create balance through layers of transparent color and hue.
