Untitled 22

Piece description from the artist

Being a drummer as well as a painter, my musical preferences influence the outcome of each painting in some rhythmic, left / right brain, connective-tissue miracle.

As you first look at my work try, if you can, to forget you are seeing any color at all, because every painting begins without color. I start instead with very thick acrylic gel, and do extensive “drawing” with clear tar and string gels. The designed, sculpted texture and intricate lines become my underpainting.

About Steve Barylick

Boston, MA

Steve Barylick's career in art began very simply; he went from constantly doodling using pencils, crayons and pastels, to exploring color and how it created light and depth on paper.

After high school, Steve graduated from Massachusetts College of Art, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. He also received a Certificate in art history from the School of Fine Arts at Boston University. While in school, he developed his design skills and began creating and painting wall murals, which led to work with graphic design and architectural firms. During this time, he worked with "Nypro Inc.":http://www.nypro.com/ and "Sun Federal Savings Bank":https://www.sunfcu.org/index.html.

Alongside this professional experience, Steve's designs won first prize for two wall mural contests; one for Boston "MBTA":http://www.mbta.com, and the other for the "Boston Common Underground Garage":http://www.massconvention.com/bcg.html. The garage murals are no longer visible; but Steve's work is still on display at the "Kenmore Square Station":http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/subway/lines/stations/?stopId=15591.
