Mountains, snowshoe-ing in the conifer forest, warm ocean currents, starfish on the beach, northern lights above. From my travels… Vancouver is an abstract landscape painting of the British Columbia temperate rainforest around Vancouver Island. I was inspired by a visit there where I saw pristine Hemlock forest thriving next to the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. Looking into the water along the shore I saw fantastic shells, starfish and other creatures. Just a few minutes away, I snowshoed through a deserted frozen landscape with towering trees clinging to mountain slopes.
Cynthia Fletcher is a painter, working in oil, acrylic, and digital media. Her style is abstract with jewel-tone color, texture, layering, and symbolism. Nature is her chief inspiration, and her work focuses on experiences there, using abstraction to go beyond form to capture and communicate light, color, and sensation.
Fletcher is also a Landscape Architect who has lived and worked in a variety of environments from Chicago to the rainforest of Panama. Her lakeside studio is located in Oklahoma City.
