About Jodie Baehre

Boston, MA

Jodie Baehre is an acrylic urban landscape painter living and working in Dorchester, MA. Drawing her inspiration from the works of Edward Hopper (1882-1967), Baehre uses light and shadow to create mood, atmosphere, and memory in her work.

Baehre has been in over 30 exhibitions in Boston. Her work is on permanent reserve at the Boston Public Library, and permanent exhibit Harvard University, Tango Therapeutics, and Massachusetts General Hospital. She has three works in State Street Bank’s permanent art collection and has been featured in Boston Magazine, DigBoston, Daily Artspace, Bezar, The Boston Globe and Apartment Therapy, among other publications.

In 2015 Jodie was nominated for the prestigious Brother Thomas Fellowship through the Boston Foundation and in 2018 (and again in 2019) Baehre was honored by The City of Boston as a Fay Chandler Emerging Artist. In 2019 she participated in an artist residency in Epsom, NH awarded through Getaway. In 2021 Jodie was nominated by the St. Botolph Club, Boston for an emerging artist grant and she was featured online by the Edward Hopper House in Nyack, NY. In 2022, Baehre was awarded The People’s Choice Award for the National art competition, “Emptiness” for her painting titled "Last Call". Later that year Baehre was awarded a curatorialship from the Fort Points Art Community for "There Once Was Parking", an exhibition that was funded in part by The City of Boston. "There Once Was Parking" was on view in 2022 at the Assemblage Gallery in The Envoy Hotel, Boston, MA. Castle Island Brewing Company created a limited edition brewery label for the gallery exhibition featuring Baehre’s award-winning painting "Last Call". Later in 2022, Baehre received a second grant from The Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture to produce another series of creative events in Dorchester, MA under the title "There Once Was Parking II". Featuring concerts, art markets, exhibitions, and more, this series of events was free and open to the public. In 2024 Baehre was awarded an Artist Residency through Getaway in Connecticut and also in 2024 she completed a major multi-painting commission for Tango Therapeutics.

Baehre is a member of the Fort Point Arts Community, The National Guild for Community ArtsEducation, The Edward Hopper House, in Nyack, NY, The American Iris Society, and the Western New York Iris Society. She also volunteers for Michael E. Haynes Legacy, The Africa Hope Development Initiative, and the Western New York Iris Society.

Baehre studied Industrial Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology and Printmaking and the History of Italian Gardens at the Lorenzo De Medici school in Italy. She received a bachelor’s of fine arts from the Art Institute of Boston, and a master’s of science in art administration from Boston University. She has worked for over 10 years at Project STEP, a non-profit music organization for children of color as the Director of Development & Fundraising.
