Willy Bo Richardson received an MFA in painting from Pratt Institute in 2000, was a painting tech at Cooper Union in New York and a faculty member at Santa Fe University of Art and Design.
Richardson’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions and featured in numerous group exhibitions including 70 Years of Abstract Painting – Excerpts at Jason McCoy Gallery. The show assembled works by a selection of modern and contemporary painters, including Josef Albers, Hans Hofmann and Jackson Pollock. He also showed a body of work in the exhibition “Watercolors” at the Phillips Auction headquarters in Chelsea New York.
His work and vision was featured on the PBS weekly arts series, ¡COLORES!. Public collections include the Albuquerque Museum. Richardson was awarded a residency at Tamarind Institute and was a SITE Santa Fe SPREAD finalist.
Willy Bo Richardson is represented by Nüart Gallery in Santa Fe and Los Angeles, as well as Richard Levy Gallery in Albuquerque, ClampArt in New York City, and Skot Foreman Fine Art in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
Describing his paintings as “philosophy in motion,” he paints large scale canvases in vertical fluid strokes, using a non-linear approach. Richardson States, “When 'disruptions' are a norm, perhaps what we are looking for is a loadstone that points towards consistency and quietude. My paintings offer space for peace and contemplation of beauty in the moment.”
