Piece description from the artist
The photo I'm describing here is one of my favorites, because it captures the beauty and mystery of nature. It shows three stumps of knots of old branches in a detailed background of the aging bark of a dead cedar tree trunk. The texture and color of the bark create an abstract image that resembles the eyes and nose of a pig. I was fascinated by this natural illusion and how it contrasted with the rest of the bark.
Steve Heap has been a photographer for over 50 years now (which is frightening to think about!) but in that time he has developed an eye for what would make a striking piece of wall art. Photography is all about the light and his finest attribute is patience! Waiting for the conditions to be just right is the key to making a piece of art that you can be proud of. Of course, luck plays a part, but without that patience of being in the right place at the right time, it just becomes a snapshot. He focuses on capturing images from around the world – timeless shots that reward the viewer with insights as they spend more time with them!
