Piece description from the artist
I felt the bold form of this beautiful white horse with black mane provided a strong composition. Also, inspirational was the transparently watchful and curious gaze of this horse.
For a fine granular surface, I used an Acrylic medium containing pumice for the first layers on the canvas. Once dried, I drew in the form of the horse keeping in mind the negative shapes. My color choices include a limited palette of soft blues and violets for the shadows and background with soft yellows in the foreground. I find simplicity of this painting to be compelling. Here is one of my favorite quotes by Leonardo da Vinci: "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
The natural world and her love for animals inspire Dara Daniel's Acrylic on canvas, mixed-media paintings. She combines bold colors and shapes and lots of textures to create fun, playful interpretations of horses and other animal spirits.
For all her paintings, she combines all the available elements of design to express rhythms and energy and moods and emotion. Dara explains, "Each painting experience is unique yet, my goal for all my paintings is to capture a degree of nature's passionate spirit, joy, and beauty."
