"Blue Lips" is an Acrylic on canvas that depicts a bear's face with a melody of vibrant colors and textures. Inspirational for this piece is the wild nature of this magnificent animal. I first applied various handmade papers for texture for the bear and the background to create this painting. Then, once dried, I added layers of rich contrasting colors for shadows and light. I decided on blues and blue/greens for the shadows, and these are the dominant colors. Then, for my accent colors, I used warm browns to indicate the color of the bear. For my highlights, I used a soft white.
I have heard up close the howls of bears, and I can only describe the sounds they make as passionate, emotional, and wild. My heart goes to bears because I know their habitat is disappearing, and they are often hungry and desperately seeking food.
