I was inspired to paint this horse's profile because of the low soft light illuminating the front of this orange/red horse. I also love the elegant curve of the neck and positive and negative shapes within this painting’s composition.
To create texture and to build up the form of the horse I applied lots of molding paste. Then once dried, I layered contrasting colors beginning with deep violets and blues for the shadows and background then various tones of reds and oranges for the light. Then, to bring this painting to completion, I added the details and the blaze which made a perfect focal point.
