This photograph was taken at Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Mears, Michigan in August 2013. The dune ridges and valleys are mostly windblown sand and lack trees, scrub brush and dune grass. In some areas the dunes look like desert.
Sarah A. Miller is a photographer living in the Pacific Northwest. She works as a photojournalist in Boise, Idaho. Previously she held newspaper positions in Texas, Utah, Michigan and Ohio. She is a graduate of Central Michigan University. She loves the outdoors, especially mountains, rivers and deserts.
