Piece description from the artist
A simple sticker struck a chord with me as I was walking in Brooklyn. Andy Warhol is one of the world's most famous artists and this cheap sticker is advertising the trade of petty cash for his renowned works of art. This is a reminder of gentrification and it's impact; the removal of landmarks, the cheapening of a history that existed in the city long before any of us. The low angle forces you to think about the way culture and cash often intersect in city life.
Vanessa 'Venusian' Edwards is a Brooklyn-based visual artist, photographer, and Temple alumna who thrives on color, concept, and creativity. Through visually stimulating editing, she loves to emphasize the aspect of story and human emotion in any single photograph. Her favorite saying regarding her work is "human emotion is a lost art", which is something she aims to capture in every shot.
Today she is collaborating with brands and artists across industries to bring visionary ideas to life, exploring herbology and the ceremony of drinking tea, and exploring somatic movement through practice and performance.
